As early spring arrives, all things revive. Holi paints the entire country in vibrant colors, and the usually reserved Indians indulge in unbridled revelry. They forget their past troubles and joyfully welcome the new year. A Romantic Festival with a Thousand-Year History Holi is an ancient Indian festival, originally called Holika, now also known as Vasanta-Mahotsava or Kama-Mahotsava, but commonly referred to as Holi Festival. Descriptions of this festival can be found in the ancient religious text, the Mahabharata. Historians believe that this festival originated and flourished in eastern India. Originally, it was a special ritual to express people's longing for family happiness and their worship of the full moon.
Ancient Indian culture likened spring to the companion of the god of love. Every spring, when love descends, people go out to enjoy the season, and feelings of attraction arise between the sexes, leading to playful interactions. In modern times, this has evolved into people wearing bright colors, flirting, teasing, and joking with each other, even between spouses. Therefore, Holi is also commonly known as the "Festival of Jokes." For young people, this festival is naturally a prime opportunity to pursue their crushes. They can take advantage of the festive atmosphere to express feelings they wouldn't normally dare to show, and even if rejected, it won't be too embarrassing, because it's Holi!

This traditional festival is held annually in February or March of the Gregorian calendar, with varying durations of celebration. Currently, there are two methods used in India to calculate the start of Holi: one begins on the first day after the full moon, and the other on the first day of the new moon. While the second method is more common now, the first was very popular in the past. According to the first method, the full moon is the last day of the year, heralding the arrival of spring (which begins the following day). Therefore, Holi, which begins with the full moon, gradually became a festival of celebration and a harbinger of spring, hence it is also known as the Indian New Year.
Please don't be angry, this is Holi.
Holi is similar to a Western carnival; its essence is to allow everyone to freely express their joy. It can be said to be India's most passionate and vibrant festival. At this time, Indians often say, "If spring has come, can Holi (the festival of flowers) be far behind?"
Two days before the festival, people's festive spirit begins to rise. According to tradition, mothers make new clothes for their married daughters; buy materials to make paint; and prepare water guns and water balloons filled with paint. In the past, a priest would announce the start of the celebration. Nowadays, this task is taken over by the eldest man in the family. The paint is placed in a dish, and the paint water is held in a small copper pot. The eldest man sprinkles the paint water and powder onto the gathered family members, and then the younger ones follow suit. In this unique way, love and blessings are conveyed to family members. After enjoying Holi food, the day's celebrations come to an end.
Wish the all Indian friends have a happy Holi holiday.
