voltage levels
Medium-voltage switchgear is available in voltage levels of 3.6 kV, 7.2 kV, 12 kV, 24 kV, and 40.5 kV.
3.6 kV and 7.2 kV are relatively rare, primarily in industrial and marine applications.
12 kV is one of the more common medium-voltage levels, commonly used in medium-voltage distribution systems in distribution grids, industrial and mining enterprises, commercial buildings, and other locations. For example, common switchgear models such as the KYN28-12, XGN15-12, and HXGN-12 are all available in a 12kV voltage rating, used for power distribution, control, and protection in 10kV systems.
24kV: Used in specific scenarios, such as medium-voltage power systems with high insulation requirements or special needs.
40.5kV: Another voltage rating with high application requirements, commonly found in large substations, power plants, and heavy industrial locations. Switchgear models such as the KYN 61-40.5 and GZS1-40.5 are suitable for 35kV systems and can meet the insulation and withstand voltage requirements of electrical equipment at higher voltage levels.
Conclusion
In practical applications, switchgear can cover smaller voltage levels with a larger voltage rating while meeting the insulation voltage requirements of the application environment. For example, a 12kV switchgear can be used in 3kV and 6kV systems at altitudes below 1000 meters.
