The purpose of voltage release
The purpose of voltage release is to ensure the personal safety of operators and maintenance personnel.
In high-voltage systems like 10kV, even after the power supply has been disconnected, a considerable amount of residual charge remains.
If not released manually, this residual charge will create an induced high voltage.
If maintenance personnel accidentally touch it, this residual charge will instantly form a discharge circuit through the human body, causing severe electric shock injuries, resulting in injury or death.
Furthermore, connecting a grounding wire while the circuit is live can trigger a strong arc short circuit, which may also cause severe burns to the operator.

Currently, the most standard and safest method for voltage release is to use a high-voltage discharge rod (discharge pen).
The operating procedure is as follows:
Voltage Testing: Use a qualified 10kV high-voltage test pen to test the busbar or equipment to confirm whether it still carries residual charge.
Grounding Connection: Insert one end of the dedicated grounding wire provided with the discharge rod into the interface of the discharge rod and tighten it. Securely connect the other end to a reliable grounding electrode to ensure good grounding.
Discharge Procedure: Wearing insulated gloves, hold the insulated part of the discharge rod and slowly bring the metal probe at the tip of the rod close to the energized busbar. Gradually release the residual charge through the discharge resistor.
Direct Grounding: After the residual charge has been completely discharged and the discharge sound is no longer audible, use a grounding clamp or a hooked wire to directly contact the busbar for final direct grounding discharge, completely eliminating the potential difference.
