The breaking process of a VS1-12 vacuum circuit breaker can be divided into three key stages, summarized below based on authoritative information:

I. Contact Separation Stage

 

Initial Separation

The operating mechanism drives the moving contact to rapidly separate from the stationary contact, forming a tiny gap. At this time, current still flows through the metal vapor between the contacts, forming an electric arc.

 

II. Arc Formation and Transmission Stage

 

Arc Generation: At the moment of contact separation, the metal vapor on the contact surface ionizes, forming an electron cloud. This electron cloud is confined by the vacuum environment, and the electric arc propagates around the contact gap.

Arc Transmission

The electric arc is divided into multiple arc axes, which move outwards under the control of a magnetic field, eventually being confined within the contact gap.

 

III. Arc Extinguishing and Insulation Restoration Stages

 

Arc Extinguishing: When the current crosses zero (100 times per second for AC), the arc energy is rapidly consumed, the electron cloud dissipates, and the arc extinguishes naturally.

Insulation Restoration:

The vacuum gap rapidly restores its high insulation strength after the arc extinguishes, ensuring reliable circuit disconnection.

Disconnection Speed ​​Control: In the initial disconnection stage (0~3mm), arc formation and transmission must be completed quickly. In subsequent disconnection stages, a buffer device controls the speed of the conductive rod to shorten the arcing time.

Technical Parameters: Rated voltage is typically 3.6kV to 40.5kV, suitable for medium and high voltage power systems.
