The lifespan of a transformer is defined as the time it operates normally under rated voltage and rated load.
The materials used to manufacture transformers mainly fall into two categories:
If the transformer's operating temperature exceeds the allowable value for an extended period, the insulation material is prone to damage.
1.The Relationship Between Transformer Lifespan and Insulation Temperature Most power transformers in my country use oil-paper insulation, i.e., Class A insulation. Under normal operating conditions, when the ambient air temperature is 40℃, the limiting operating temperature of the transformer windings is 105℃.
2.Practice and research show that if the winding temperature can be continuously maintained at 95℃, the transformer can have a service life of 20 years. Based on the relationship between temperature and lifespan, the so-called 8℃ rule can be derived: Based on the lifespan at the aforementioned temperatures, for every 8℃ increase in winding temperature, the transformer's lifespan is shortened by half.
This reflects the heat resistance of the insulation material. For example, A-105℃ means that the transformer's operating temperature plus the ambient temperature does not exceed 105℃; other levels follow the same principle.

How to Extend Transformer Lifespan?
1.Oil Management (Most Critical):
1)Regular Oil Sample Testing: Test moisture content, acid value, dielectric loss, dissolved gas analysis, etc. This is the transformer's "blood test," capable of detecting early problems.
2) Oil Treatment: When oil quality exceeds standards, perform vacuum filtration, degassing, and dehydration treatment.
2. Preventative Testing:
1)Regularly measure winding DC resistance, insulation resistance, absorption ratio, dielectric loss factor, winding deformation, etc.
2)Infrared Thermometry: Regularly inspect for overheating in joints, bushings, etc.
3. Inspection and Maintenance:
1) Inspect the silicone breather (replace immediately if discolored) to prevent moisture ingress.
2) Keep bushings and housings clean and check for oil leaks.
3) Regularly calibrate pressure relief valves, gas relays, thermometers, and other protective devices.
