One lays the groundwork, the other acts as a bridge, together forming a more efficient and flexible power system. If we compare the power system to a city's transportation network, AC is the extensive network of general roads, while DC is the expressways or tunnels connecting key nodes.

 

AC is responsible for "coverage," and DC is responsible for "connection." Only through their combined operation can the power grid be more efficient and flexible.

AC: Laying out a network, flexible distribution. AC is responsible for "laying the network," while DC is responsible for "bridging."

The advantage of medium-voltage AC is its ability to flexibly form a large network, easily stepping up and down voltage through transformers to supply power to all users within a region. Its equipment is mature and low-cost, making it the mainstay of the distribution system.

Its disadvantage is high transmission losses over long distances, making it less suitable for point-to-point long-distance transmission.

The advantage of medium-voltage DC is its efficient "point-to-point" transmission, particularly suitable for directly transmitting electricity generated by photovoltaics, wind power, and energy storage, eliminating the need for AC-DC conversion and resulting in higher efficiency. It can also precisely control power at the millisecond level and connect two asynchronous AC networks.

The disadvantages are inflexible networking, expensive equipment at both ends, and the inability to easily connect new users midway.
