Here are key points
Power Shortage
International Cooperation
The power shortage in northern Vietnam amounts to 6,000 megawatts, accounting for a quarter of total demand.

In May 2025, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with China Electric Power Construction Group, proposing aid for power infrastructure construction and technical needs. At the same time, a $664 million power plant contract was signed with Doosan Energy of South Korea, and an agreement was reached with Russia for the construction of a nuclear power plant.
Progress of New Energy Projects Tai Binh LNG Thermal Power Project: Scheduled to start construction in October 025, with an investment of $2.69 billion, installed capacity of 1,500 megawatts, and commissioning in 202. It adopts a combined cycle gas turbine, with an annual power generation of 6-10 billion kilowatt-hours.
Nuclear Power Reactivation The Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant is scheduled to be restarted by the end of 2024, with plans for operation between 2035 and2045. Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and Vietnam National Oil Group are responsible for Units 1 and 2, respectively. 2 Deepening-Vietnam Power Cooperation In November 2025, China Southern Power Grid held talks with Vietnam Electricity Group, focusing on UHV transmission, energy technology, and new energy cooperation. The two sides plan to promote the interconnection of power infrastructure and bilateral trade.
Industry Exhibitions and Market Opportun The Vietnam International New Energy Expo (VIEEXPO 2026) will be held in Hanoi in June 2026, focusing on technologies as photovoltaics, energy storage, and smart grids, providing a platform for Chinese enterprises to connect with the Vietnamese energy market.
