The adaptability of the power grid structure is insufficient, and the contradiction of power consumption is prominent.
In China, most of the photovoltaic resource-rich areas are concentrated in remote regions such as Northwest and North China, while the power consumption centers are mainly located in the southeast coastal areas. The reverse distribution of power supply and demand has intensified the pressure on power transmission. Although the ultra-high voltage power transmission projects have been continuously advanced, there are still problems of insufficient capacity and lagging construction in some transmission channels in certain regions. A person in charge of the energy department of a certain province in Northwest China disclosed that the photovoltaic power rejection rate in the province once rose to 8% at the beginning of this year, mainly due to the limited external transmission channels, making it difficult to fully consume the "green electricity".

Issues
Although projects such as electrochemical energy storage and pumped storage are being accelerated, their construction pace still cannot keep up with the growth rate of photovoltaic installations. Currently, the national energy storage capacity is only about 6% of the photovoltaic capacity, and there are problems such as high costs and low utilization rates. Some industry insiders have called for further promotion of the "photovoltaic + energy storage" integrated model and improvement of the peak-valley electricity price policy through market mechanisms to encourage energy storage to participate in grid peak shaving.
Relevant Policies
Policy and market forces are working in tandem to explore transformation paths. In response to challenges, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration recently jointly issued the "Guiding Opinions on the Construction of a New Power System", emphasizing the need to promote the integrated development of power sources, grids, loads and storage in a coordinated manner and accelerate the reform of the power market. Some regions have piloted innovative mechanisms such as "subsidies for the accuracy of photovoltaic power generation prediction" and "virtual power plant aggregated response". Academician Li Jianhua of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said, "In the future, efforts need to be made simultaneously in technological breakthroughs, market design, and cross-regional coordination to ensure the stable and long-term development of photovoltaic power in the energy revolution."
