The common faults of vacuum circuit breakers and their causes are as follows:
Decrease or loss of vacuum level
May be due to manufacturing defects in the vacuum bubble itself, poor sealing, fatigue damage to the bellows, or loosening and leakage of internal components caused by external impact or vibration.
Mechanical failure
Issues including failure to open or close, slow operation, jamming, incomplete opening or closing, and speed/time exceeding permissible limits may be caused by poor lubrication of transmission components, problems with the opening and closing electromagnets, problems with the energy storage mechanism, buffer failure, foreign objects inside the mechanism, or jamming or deformation of auxiliary switches and transmission mechanisms.
Overheating of conductive circuit
The symptoms include abnormal overheating at the joint, contact, or conductor connection, which may be caused by contact wear, poor contact, or poor contact at the flexible connection.
Insulation fault
These include phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground flashover, breakdown, excessive partial discharge, creepage on the surface of support insulators or bushings, pollution flashover, or cracking. These issues may be caused by aging, cracking, moisture, internal defects in the insulation material, insufficient air gaps, entry of small animals, or foreign object contact.
Control and secondary circuit faults
If the VS1-12 vacuum circuit breaker does not respond to opening/closing commands, the status signal is incorrect, the energy storage signal is abnormal, or the protection trip command cannot be executed, it may be due to faulty opening/closing coils, control power supply failures, auxiliary switch contact problems, or loose wiring in the secondary control circuit.

Other faults
Such issues include vacuum circuit breaker malfunction, failure of the energy storage motor to stop, increased DC resistance, and increased closing bounce time. Specific causes include auxiliary switch contact short circuit, limit switch failure, changes in contact spring pressure, contact wear, and wear of the crank arm and shaft pin clearance.
All of the above faults can affect the normal operation of vacuum circuit breakers, thereby impacting the reliability and safety of the power system. Therefore, regular inspection and maintenance are essential.
