The main causes of overheating in high-voltage vacuum circuit breakers can be summarized into the following five categories, covering aspects such as load, contact quality, installation process, and equipment maintenance:

Sudden Load Changes or Short-Circuit Impacts

 

When the power load changes abruptly (e.g., a sudden increase) or the circuit is subjected to a short-circuit current surge, the connection parts such as the circuit breaker's sprite contacts heat up due to the rapid increase in current. Under normal load, the temperature rise should be controlled below 75℃.

 

Contact Quality Issues

 

Material and Workmanship Defects: Low conductivity of contact materials, thin or peeling silver plating, and substandard spring material all increase contact resistance.

 

Poor Contact

 

Dimensional deviations between moving and stationary contacts (e.g., greater than 3mm), insufficient insertion depth, or insufficient spring tension in the Phillips head contact reduce the contact area.

 

Installation Process Issues

 

Assembly deviations between moving and stationary contacts, such as poor fit between the Phillips head and stationary contact, can lead to arcing and burning of the contact surfaces after prolonged operation.

Loose or insufficiently tightened fixing bolts affect contact stability.

 

Improper equipment maintenance

 

Dirty or oxidized contact surfaces increase contact resistance.

Aging spring performance leads to decreased contact pressure and accelerated temperature rise.

 

Other potential factors

 

Loose or oxidized connections (such as conductive rods and junction boxes).

Prolonged overload operation exceeding the design temperature rise range.
