3. Comparison of voltage transformer (PT)

Differences between current and voltage transformer:

CT: connected in series with the circuit, the secondary side needs to be connected to a low impedance load (such as an ammeter, relay). Open circuit leads to high voltage.

PT: connected in parallel with the circuit, the secondary side needs to be connected to a high impedance load (such as a voltmeter). Short circuit leads to high current and may burn the equipment.

Load matching: The secondary side of the CT in operation must be connected to a matching load (such as a 1A or 5A meter), and no load is prohibited.
